Briefly About Our Institutions

also known as the Bangalore High School, was the first educational institution established by the BHS Higher Education Society (formerly known as the BHS Managing Committee). The school commenced operations on May 15, 1942, at the premises of the current VV Puram College in VV Puram, Bangalore, and was subsequently relocated to the Bull Temple Road campus. Professor C R Narayana Rao was the Head Master of the school at the time of its inception.
The inception of Vijaya College on R V Road traces back to 1945 when it was established as 'The Bangalore Intermediate College,' providing admission to students seeking the PCM (Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics) combination. The college was initially situated in the Vokkaliga Sangha premises and had two sections, each accommodating sixty students. The first Principal of the college was Rao Bahadur Prof. B Venkteshachar. In 1946, it was renamed as Vijaya College, and on January 1, 1953, it was shifted to its present building on R V Road
In response to the increasing need for high school education in the area, the Bangalore High School was established in Jayanagar in 1959. It was the first high school in the locality, and Sri. C Gundu Rao was appointed as the inaugural Head Master. Initially, the school operated from a modest structure located in the 3rd block of Jayanagar. However, in 1971, it relocated to a new facility in the 4th block of Jayanagar. Since 2003, the school has been housed in a brand new, standalone building on the same campus.
In August 1960, Vijaya Teachers College commenced its operations in a rented facility located in Shantinagar (Bangalore), with an authorized enrolment of 60 trainees. At its inception, Sri. K Srinivasa Rao was appointed as the head of the institution. As the number of students grew, the college relocated to the Bangalore High School building situated at Bull Temple road. Subsequently, in 1979, the college moved to its current site in the Jayanagar 4th block campus.
Vijaya Pre University College, situated in the Jayanagar campus, began operating on July 1st, 1971, as BHS Junior College, located on the premises of the Bangalore High School in Chamarajpet. Sri. K L Lakshminarayana Rao served as the college's first Principal. In September 1973, the Composite College was separated from the Bangalore High School and granted autonomous status as a Pre University College. In 1983, the college was renamed Vijaya Pre University College and commenced operations at its present location in Jayanagar.
In the year 1972, the BHS Evening Junior College, presently known as Vijaya PU Evening College, was established to provide education to working students who were unable to attend day colleges. Sri. K Lakshminaryana Rao served as the first Principal of the college. It obtained its separate identity on September 5th, 1973. In the year 1983, the college relocated to its current location in Jayanagar and was renamed as the 'Vijaya Evening Pre University College'.
The BHS Academy for Professional Studies was established on August 6th, 1992. The first batch of CA Foundation course commenced on August 16th, 1992. The academy aims to provide a platform for commerce students to acquire professional skills by engaging expert professionals in their respective fields. The BCOM Course Integrated with CA Foundation Course is offered for Foundation, Intermediate & Final levels of CA course. Prof. K R Nayak served as the Co-ordinator of the academy during its inception.
On June 6th, 1966, the Vijaya Evening college was established, providing pre-university and undergraduate courses from its inception. However, towards the end of the last century, the college moved its pre-university courses to the Vijaya Evening PU College located in the Jayanagar campus, while continuing to offer only degree courses at the Evening College situated in the R V Road campus. Prof. V T Srinivasan was appointed as the college's first Principal when it was established.
The Vijaya Bifurcated PU College, located on the R V Road campus, came into existence due to the Government of Karnataka's resolution in June 2001 to divide pre-university colleges from degree colleges. A brand new building was erected to serve as the college's independent site, and on October 18th, 2002, all the PU classes were transferred to the new location. Following the split from the Vijaya Degree College, Prof. A Sripad was appointed as the first Principal of the bifurcated PU College on the same campus.
Vijaya College, Jayanagar, previously recognized as BHS First Grade College, commenced operations on July 5th, 1989, with two science sections at the PU level and two degree sections at the degree level. The PU level offered combinations such as PCMB, PCMCs, and PCME. The degree wing had a science and commerce section. Prof. M N Rajalakshmi served as the Principal of the college during its establishment.
The Bangalore Institute of Legal Studies was founded on August 2nd, 1993, with the aim of offering 10 plus 2 students the chance to undertake a five-year BA, LLB course. The college is permanently affiliated with Karnataka State Law University, Hubli, and authorized by the Bar Council of India. Prof S S Alur was appointed as the first full-fledged Principal of the college, while Sri. N B Bhat assumed the position of the Institution's Dean.
The BHS Higher Education Society's Rural Education Project commenced with the establishment of the PRM Composite PU College in T. Narasipura, representing the first effort in this direction. The primary goal of this project was to provide quality education to disadvantaged rural students in and around T. Narasipura. BHS HES's earnest efforts culminated in the formation of PRM Bangalore High School on June 1st, 1990, in T. Narasipura, a town approximately 35 km from Mysore. The college operated out of a leased facility during the early years before relocating to a well-equipped, spacious building in 2000, situated on the new BHS HES campus in T. Narasipura. The high school was upgraded in 2004, introducing pre-university courses in Arts and Science while subsequently adding the Commerce stream, resulting in a significant expansion of the student body.
In 2000, the BHS Poornaprajna Vidyanikethana School was established with the blessings of His Holiness Sri Sri Vishweshatheertha Padangalavaru of Udupi Pejawara Math. Later in 2013, the BHS HES took over the management of the school, which provides education from nursery to 10th Standard. The school is located at the R V Road campus.
BHS HES further enhanced its reputation by launching the BHS Industrial Training Institute at its Rural Education Project in T. Narasipura. The institute commenced operations in August 2000 at the PRM Bengaluru High School premises and later shifted to its current independent building in January 2004. Sri. Velu was the first principal of the training institute, which imparts industrial training in the disciplines of Fitter, Turner, Electrician, and Electronics Mechanics.
